GRACE'S STORY

Established in 2015, Rag Treasure Doll Co. is the creative home of Grace Ponchon, a skilled and passionate seamstress. Now rebranded as Northern Spirit Doll Co. by Grace. She introduces her new line of 18” dolls, The Northern Spirit Doll, each uniquely dressed in her original, custom designed creations. Grace’s journey with sewing began in her teenage years and has remained a lifelong passion. Among her many sewing endeavors, designing and crafting doll clothes has brought her the greatest joy and fulfillment. Her custom clothing features meticulous attention to detail and professional finishing, with a variety of styles to suit every taste. Recently, Grace has drawn inspiration from her rich family history to create doll clothing that reflects her Métis heritage. Her family’s connection to Louis Riel is a significant source of pride her maternal grandmother, Sara Riel, was Louis Riel’s niece. Grace herself lived briefly as an infant in the historic Riel House with her mother, Pauline. As a Métis woman and a mother of six, Grace believes in the importance of providing children with play items that reflect their identities and celebrate diversity. Through Northern Spirit Doll Co. by Grace she hopes to foster social and emotional development in children by promoting positive and inclusive play. Grace’s Northern Spirit Doll and its accompanying clothing designs honor her Métis heritage and aim to encourage respect for diversity in today’s world.

"It is important that children see their own identity and experiences reflected in their play. It is also important that they see the identity and experiences of others. Diverse play items are important for all children .
As a Métis person, and the owner of Northern Spirit Doll Co. by Grace, I hope to help children develop their social and emotional development through positive play experiences."
